The Japan's Mainstay in the Solomons
Following the Zero Model 21 (A6M2), which achieved overwhelming victories against Allied forces in the first half of Pacific War, the summer 1942 saw the introduction of the Model 32 (A6M3) which was powered by a Sakae 21 engine and an 11m wingspan with clipped wingtips. Although top speed increased, its range reduced drastically, therefore the Model 22 (A6M3) was rushed into development in order to correct the Model 32's shortcomings.

The Japanese masterpiece has revived
The Mitsubishi A6M Zero was the Japanese Navyfs main fighter throughout the course of WWII. In the latter half of the war, the Model 22 was refined to create the Model 52 to counter new U.S. aircraft such as the P-38 Lightning and F4U Corsair. It featured 50cm shorter wings with rounded wingtips, individual exhaust pipes and top speed of 565km/h. A6M5a was produced with a larger capacity (125 rounds) belt-type cannon ammunition system in February 1944.

About the J1N1-Sa Night Fighter Gekko
Originally designed as a long-range fighter, the three-seat twin-engine Nakajima J1N1 was designated as a reconnaissance aircraft after failing testing. Following being successfully used as a night fighter against US bombers, official production began in 1943 on a night fighter version, the J1N1-S Gekko (moonlight).

It was to be another long-range harassment of the Japanese outpost of Rabaul, New Britain Island. In the early hours of May 21, 1943, the B-17 Flying Fortresses of the 43d Bombardment Group moved inland, putting themselves in range of Japanese fighters.

About the Aichi M6A1 Seiran
