About Kunozan Toshogu Shrine
Kunozan Toshogu Shrine enshrines Tokugawa Ieyasu as a deity, and is the founding of all Toshogu Shrines in Japan. Ieyasu, who founded the Edo Shogunate, spent his later years in Shizuoka and died in 1616 at the age of 75.
According to his will, his remains were buried in Mt. Kuno, and after that, Kunozan Toshogu Shrine was built by order of the second shogun Hidetada.

The two-story vermillion-lacquered gate is built on top of the stone steps. The "Tosho Daigongen" written on the forehead in the center refers to Tokugawa Ieyasu, who was deified and enshrined as the god of Toshogu all over the country.
