About "53 Stations of the Tōkaidō"
"53 Stations of the Tōkaidō" is one of the five roads established in the Edo era, a road connecting the 492 km from the Nihonbashi in Tokyo to the Sanjo Ohashi in Kyoto.
There were towns for accommodation in 53 places, which were used for traveling and traveling of travelers.

About "Otsu-juku"
"Otsu-juku" which was the last town in "53 Stations of the Tōkaidō" is located in the south of Lake Biwa and flourished as the largest lodging town as a gateway to Kyoto.
The road to Kyoto was distinguished from the roadway through which cattle's carts pass and the sidewalk through which travelers pass. On the left side there was a road through which people and horses passed, and on the right side, stones were laid and serviced for the Ox cart.
The well well water that moistened the throat of the traveler of those days continues to spring water today.
