About Sunpu Castle
Sunpu Castle is a castle built by Tokugawa Ieyasu in present-day Shizuoka City, Shizuoka Prefecture.
Sunpu Castle was built three times. The beginning was the Tensho period at the end of the Sengoku period. The second castle was built in the Keicho I period (1607) at the beginning of the Edo period, but it burned down shortly after completion. The third time, in the Keicho II period (1610), the castle tower was rebuilt as a five-story, seven-story structure.
Tokugawa Ieyasu ordered daimyo from all over the country to build a castle using the finest building materials and skilled craftsmen. The lower side of the stone wall of the castle tower on the west side is 68 meters wide, making it the largest in the history of the castle, and the castle tower is built in the center of it. Its majestic appearance was truly a castle representative of Japan. Until Ieyasu's death at Sunpu Castle, it flourished as a political and economic center on a par with Edo.
About the kit
Based on research materials of the castle tower from the Keicho II period (1610), its mysterious appearance has been modeled using our own design (1/150 scale). The beautiful exterior of Sunpu Castle, such as the gables and gable decorations, are recreated in wood, while the shachihoko and other features are made in metal. The stone wall of the huge castle tower has been recreated with natural wood. A water surface film sheet is used to express the moat. All pages of the assembly instructions are in color. Recommended paints are also provided for those who wish to paint.
